South African rights group Afriforum is challenging the constitutionality of a law that will allow for expropriation of property without compensation, hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa and US leader Donald Trump hold talks where they may discuss the legislation.

The clause in the Expropriation Act that provides for nil compensation in some cases “‘opens the real possibility of the abuse of public power,” the conservative White Afrikaans rights group said in a statement on Wednesday. Its application is with the High Court.
