Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba appears to be trying to keep his party rivals in check as he wrestles with the US over tariffs and prepares for an upper house election in less than two months.

Ishiba is considering dissolving the lower house of parliament if the opposition submits a no-confidence vote during the current session through late June, Japanese media outlets such as the Asahi newspaper reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed government sources.
