Kenya’s government labeled protests in which at least 16 people died this week as “terrorism” and vowed to bring to book the people who planned them.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Kenya on Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of anti-government protests that culminated in the storming of parliament and in which more than 60 people were killed. Police fired on crowds with live rounds, according to the Kenya Human Rights Commission, while the Independent Medico-Legal Unit said the death toll is expected to climb.
