Malawi Faces $2 Billion Reserves Hole This Year, IMF Says
Malawi’s net international reserves will plunge $2 billion into negative territory in 2025, according to the International Monetary Fund — an amount that’s equivalent to almost a fifth of the nation’s total economy.
The Washington-based lender expects gross reserves in the southern African nation — which is in the process of restructuring its debt — to slide to $118 million this year.
