Trump Aid Cuts Push South Africa’s Jobless Rate to Year High
US President Donald Trump’s rollback of foreign aid contributed to South Africa’s unemployment rate rising to a one-year high, after the community and social services sector suffered heavy job losses.
The rate jumped to 33.2% in the three months through June, compared with 32.9% in the prior quarter. The community services sector shed 42,000 jobs in the quarter, the most among the six areas of the economy that lost labor.
