Democratic Republic of Congo’s army accused Rwanda-backed M23 rebels of attacking its positions in the east of the country and threatening peace talks overseen by the US and Qatari governments.

The attacks are aimed at “undermining the different processes meant to bring a sustainable peace to the eastern part of our country,” Congolese army spokesman Major General Sylvain Ekenge said in a statement sent by message to Bloomberg.
