Potential War Crimes Rampant in Eastern Congo, Rights Groups Say

Rwanda-backed M23 rebels were allegedly responsible for widespread atrocities in zones they control in the region, including at least 141 executions in July alone, according to Human Rights Watch. Congolese government-backed militias also allegedly took part in multiple gang rapes in the region, according to a separate report by Amnesty International.
